The Marina Barrage serves several benefits such as increasing the water supply with the Marina Reservoir meeting more than 10% of the current water demand, alleviating flooding in the low-lying areas in the city, and serving as a lifestyle attraction with recreational activities such as windsurfing and kayaking.
The Barrage has areas for people to picnic, kite fly, and a water play area for children and adults. There is also great views of the city and the sea.
We took a tour of the museum which was also quite interesting. It talks about the history of the waterways in Singapore and the strategic plan to keep clean fresh water in the reservoirs around Singapore. There is small scale model of the barrage and there is a demonstration on how it works as well as a small scale model of the whole Marina area. Very cool.
